Along Came Austin

I met Austin my sophomore year in high school.  I thought he was cute, fun, and really nice.  The first time I met him, he shook my hand and I had this feeling that he was really special and would affect me differently than any other guy would.  The next year of high school I saw Austin's picture in the paper for sports but felt pretty helpless about the situation without some way to start communicating (aka Facebook).  We managed to hang out a little before he began his freshman year at BYU, but he then went off to college to room with my brother and I began my senior year at Parma High School.  My brother and Austin both got their mission calls around the same time in November and were called to neighboring missions and would both speak Russian.  Austin got called to the Donetsk, Ukraine Mission while my brother was called to the Rostov, Russia mission.  They gave their farewells on the same day, left the same day, and came home the same day.  I of course read into all these similarities and convinced myself that they were not just a coincidence.  When Austin got home I think we were both curious how things would be.  Well, things went quickly.  But because things did go so quickly we wondered in our dating if we had made the right decision.  This made our dating rough at times, but in the end we realized we couldn't live without one another.

Austin proposed June 11, 2010 in Salt Lake City as a horse drawn carriage pulled us around beautiful Temple Square. Austin told me that we were going to the Salt Lake temple to do baptisms.  When he picked me up, he surprised me with a dozen roses, and we headed to dinner.  While we were waiting for a seat I felt a box in Austin's coat pocket.  I teased him about it, and he told me this story about how it was the ring box his dad had used to ask his mom to marry him.  He realized that he had forgotten to take the box out of his pocket when his dad gave it to him.  I of course believed this ridiculous story; he showed me the empty box to ease any suspicion I still had.  Before I had left for the evening my roommates kept telling me Austin was going to propose.  But I was 100% sure that he wouldn't.  He had always told me he wanted to propose in Idaho and wait until I came home from school. Throughout the evening Austin kept making comments about how he was nervous about asking my dad for permission to marry me.  While we were driving to the temple we realized it was too late for baptisms.  Austin mentioned that we should go on a carriage ride instead.  The temple was glowing and beautiful as we rode around it.  Austin proceeds to tell me that he has already talked to my dad and grabs his temple bag and pulls out a book with a castle on it.  He told me it was the princess book he had mentioned a few weeks earlier that he had found in a store and wanted to buy me.  When he opened the book I saw baby pictures of me and a story about a princess meeting her prince.  I was so surprised and speechless but still didn't know for sure if he would propose to me.  The book told our story of growing up and finding one another.  The book was so thoughtful and Austin had spent so much time making sure every picture and word was perfect.  At the end of the book he asked me to marry him and knelt down in the carriage and put a ring on my finger.  Until that point I hadn't let myself believe that he was going to propose, so when that happened I just started crying and said yes.  It was the perfect proposal I was so surprised and I want to cry when I think about how perfect it was.  Here are some photos from the night : )

At dinner- I had no idea what was coming!

Right after he proposed!

We were married in the Boise, Idaho Temple on August 19, 2010.  The day was perfect thanks to both of our families.  We had two receptions and a luncheon; it was a lot of work but it was so worth it.

Well that is the beginning of our love story! Don't worry, much more headed your way.

I just want to say that I am so grateful to have found such an amazing guy to marry! I really am so blessed and lucky to have him in my life.  I also am grateful for such an amazing family that supports my in everything I do and I love more than I can even express.  This is something that I have looked forward to as long as I remember.  I can't believe that I am an old married woman now!  Just feels like I was a little girl yesterday, this is a reason I named my blog "Life Escapes Me" because it really does.  I am so grateful for all the support from friends and family during such a special event in our lives.  It means so much to me and Austin.
